Newcastle Midfielder Is "Interesting" German Side - But There's Been No Medical Yet

Abeid looks like he is on his way out of NUFC.

Newcastle United midfielder Mehdi Abeid is "interesting" Fortuna Düsseldorf after heading to Germany for talks - although the Bundesliga 2 side's head coach has denied that a medical has yet to take place. Abeid found himself on the Magpies€™ bench for the 1-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, but he did not come on - and now it looks like he will leave Tyneside, according to the Shields Gazette. Last month, France Football claimed the Algeria international was in €œadvanced talks€ with the German side and it now looks likely he will move on to pastures new.

And, speaking to the Rheinische Post, Fortuna coach Kramer confirmed his club's interest in Abeid. He said:
"This is a player (Abeid) you have to always watch. Of course, he's interesting - but much more. It is not currently available. "In any case, he graduated to date no medical check with us."
Earlier this summer, Abeid was linked with a permanent return to Greek club Panathinaikos - the side he spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at - but The Chronicle claim they were unwilling to meet Newcastle€™s asking price. Yet France Football reported that €œambitious€ Fortuna do not have a problem paying the fee the Magpies want for Abeid and that the midfielder looks likely to move to the Bundesliga 2. The midfielder impressed during his time at Panathinaikos, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances and helping them claim the Greek Cup in 2013-14, and the Greek club want to add greater strength to their squad for this season - but it looks like Abeid will head to Fortuna instead. Last season, Abeid played 16 times for the Magpies - including on 13 occasions in the Premier League - but McClaren€™s arrival seems to have put an end to his Newcastle United career.
