Newcastle Name Price For Midfielder

The Magpies want £2 million for Mehdi Abeid this summer.

Newcastle United are willing to let Mehdi Abeid depart Tyneside this summer - but only if they receive £2 million for his signature, according to reports. The Shields Gazette claim that the Magpies are actively looking to sell Abeid and that they have named their price to potential suitors, who include both Panathinaikos and Fortuna Düsseldorf. Abeid found himself on the Magpies€™ bench for the 1-0 pre-season friendly loss to Borussia Mönchengladbachon earlier this month, but he did not come on - and now it looks like he will leave Tyneside.

Last month, France Football claimed the Algeria international was in €œadvanced talks€ with German side Fortuna and it now looks likely he will move on to pastures new. And, speaking to the Rheinische Post earlier this month, Fortuna coach Kramer confirmed his club€™s interest in Abeid. He said:
€œThis is a player (Abeid) you have to always watch. Of course, he€™s interesting - but much more. It is not currently available. €œIn any case, he graduated to date no medical check with us.€
Earlier this summer, Abeid was linked with a permanent return to Greek club Panathinaikos - the side he spent the 2013-14 campaign on loan at - but The Chronicle claimed they were unwilling to meet Newcastle€™s asking price at the time. The midfielder impressed during his time at Panathinaikos, scoring 10 goals in 38 appearances and helping them claim the Greek Cup in 2013-14, and the Greek club want to add greater strength to their squad for this season. Last season, Abeid played 16 times for the Magpies - including on 13 occasions in the Premier League - but Steve McClaren€™s arrival seems to have put an end to his Newcastle United career.
