Newcastle Press Release - New Head Coach To Build Own Backroom Team & Andy Woodman To Stay

Newcastle United this morning have confirmed both John Carver and Steve Stone have lost their jobs but goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman will be staying with the club. A press release also confirmed that management team shakeup was brought about so the new Head Coach could bring in his own men. Carver and Stone were both sacked yesterday after Untied's terrible second half to the season but were expected to stay on under arguably the worst kept secret in the club's history, Steve McClaren. Now however, the former Middlesbrough manager, who is expected to be confirmed in his new role today, will have the chance to bring in his own men and really make the club his own. The other main talking point from the statement is that goalkeeping coach Andy Woodman is to stay at the club despite rumours that he was keen on leaving to join former manager Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace. This is great news for The Magpies as Woodman's son, Freddie, is highly thought of and expected to go on to be one of the finest goalkeepers in the country in years to come having made a huge impact in England's youth teams in recent years. United should now be able to resist interest from the likes of Arsenal and Southampton and groom Woodman Jnr to be their future number one. Here's the statement in full:

Newcastle United today announced that John Carver and Steve Stone will leave the club with immediate effect. Managing Director Lee Charnley said: €œAfter discussions with John it was mutually agreed that in the best interests of the club moving forward, and to enable the new Head Coach to build his own coaching team, we would go our separate ways. €œJohn loves Newcastle United and no one could have worked with more passion and enthusiasm than he did. John€™s connection with the club dates back to 1979 when he joined as an apprentice. John has always put the club first and the recent discussions we had only re-affirmed this. He is a man of great character and dignity and will always be welcome at Newcastle United. We wish him every success in the future.€ John Carver said: "It has been a privilege to serve as Head Coach of this great football club. €œThe fans and the region deserve a successful team and both myself and my support staff worked very hard with the squad that was available to us. €œI would like to thank all of the staff at the club for their dedication, including Steve Stone in particular. I am also grateful to the owner and to Lee Charnley for their support during my tenure. €œI wish the Club every success for the future and steeled with the experience of the last six months, I am eager and ready for the next challenge." On Steve Stone, Lee Charnley said: €œI would like to place on record our thanks and appreciation to Steve Stone for his contribution to the club. Steve joined us as Academy Coach in 2009, before being appointed Reserve Team Assistant Manager in July 2010. Steve was subsequently promoted to First Team Coach under Alan Pardew and latterly, John Carver, for whom he provided tremendous support. €œLike John, we wish Steve all the very best for his future career in the game.€ Andy Woodman will remain at the club in his role as Goalkeeper Coach. Dave Watson, who joined the first team coaching staff after Alan Pardew€™s departure, will return to his role in the Academy as Under 18 Coach.
