Newcastle: Ranking All Number 9’s From Premier League Era

1. Alan Shearer

Newcastle€™s most famous son is not only a legend in the city but also the highest scoring player in the history of the club and the Premier League. Brought in for a then world record fee of £15million, Alan Shearer is the face of Newcastle as a Premier League team and a legend at the club for all-time. Shearer€™s return was immense, netting 206 goals in 404 club appearances, and the player may well be the greatest in the clubs history if not certainly the best of the modern-era. There are dozens of stand out Shearer goals and moments to choose from - the pick of the bunch that volley against Everton. Naming Shearer the greatest ever is not easy when considering the influence and popularity of the great Jackie Milburn - whose death was mourned by the entire city and whose career is immortalised in statue outside and inside the stadium. Without argument though Alan Shearer is the greatest number nine of the Premier League-era - for both Newcastle and the game as a whole.
