Newcastle Transfer News: Roma Want Yohan Cabaye?

Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye has emerged as a target for Italian outfit Roma, according to the Chronicle. The 27-year-old was the subject of reports in Italian tabloid Corriere dello Sport yesterday linking him with a transfer to the Yellow-Reds, in a move which would see him reunited with former Lille boss Rudi Garcia. This is not the first time the Toon star has been tipped for a move away this year. At the beginning of the season, Cabaye opted out of his side's first two games amid interest from Arsenal. The Gunners made an £11 million bid for the France international which was swiftly rejected, and there was no follow up offer from Arsene Wenger's side. Now, reports in Italy suggest Roma are looking for reinforcements in January, and that Cabaye is on Garcia's radar. The two worked together for three seasons toward the end of Cabaye's seven-year stay at Lille, before he joined Newcastle in 2011 for an undisclosed fee. Since then though, the midfield man has endured tumultuous periods in the North East, including being hit by a club punishment for refusing to play against Man City and West Ham in the wake of Arsenal's interest. Whether Cabaye would be willing to call time on his brief Newcastle career and swap the Premier League for Serie A remains to be seen.
