Newcastle Transfers: 10 Greatest Modern Foreign Imports

8. Tino Asprilla

Tino Asprilla CC This is a debatable one. Tino Asprilla is one of those you'd either love, or hate... a bit like marmite. We all remember the first sighting of the £6.7 million signing, in the blizzard, in that ridiculous fur coat of his. To be fair, any Columbian moving to Tyneside would need some time adapting to the weather, but, he still divided Newcastle fans' opinions. Whilst some remember the Columbian for his skill and pace, others remember him for this temperamental and controversial style both on and off the pitch. It's safe to say, his domestic performance did not replicate the skills and quality shown when playing in Europe. Some argue that he was one of the culprits as to why Newcastle finished in second place to United in THAT season - and after surrendering a twelve point lead at Christmas (I personally blame David Batty for his error v Nottingham Forest) Tino's playing time were limited mainly to substitute appearances, before he was finally sold to Parma, the club he played for before his stint at Newcastle. Many of you will still question his ability, but he makes the top ten based on character, his European scoring exploits, and the fact that we still talk and debate over him to this very day.
