9. Philippe Albert
Albert's footballing ability came to light in the 94' FIFA World Cup, where two goals in four appearances for Belgium in the States was enough for Kevin Keegan to sign him for £2.4 million. His seamless transition to English football was made to look easy. He slotted into a team that went on to win their first six games of the 94/95 season, proving to be an influential player. The atypical centre-half earned plaudits by often attacking, often seen lurking on the edge of the penalty area of the opposition, and the pinnacle of this career must be the ludicrous lobbed effort he scored in the 5-0 thrashing of Manchester United, which beat a stranded Peter Schmeichel. His love for Newcastle and English football was made apparent when he rejected a move to Serie A teams Juventus and Fiorentina. http://youtu.be/2eXsguS8HfA
