Newcastle Transfers: 10 Greatest Modern Foreign Imports

7. Nolberto Solano

Or Nolberto Albino Solano Todco to give him his full name. The Peruvian was an instant hit: his very first game for Newcastle was a reserve match, which had to be delayed in order to accommodate the rapturous crowd flocking all over to see the first ever Peruvian to play professional football in England. The expectation was well-placed: he went on to make over 200 appearances over a two-time stint with the club, contributing with forty-five goals. The love for Solano was mutual - he once described himself as 'the adopted Geordie' and started a band called 'the Geordie Latinos' demonstrating his love for the Newcastle fans. His unique style of play also contributed to Newcastle's relative success in the UEFA Champions League under Sir Bobby Robson. He was, and very much still is, a fans' favorite.
