2. Another Striker
See where I'm going here? We've all seen the headlines. Newcastle are linked regularly to the likes of
Darren Bent,
Wilfried Bony, and
Aubameyang. We've been linked with others as well, but these three are the ones I'm interested in. Signing any less than two of these players (or their equivalent) is simply nowhere near acceptable. As you are all aware, Swansea are also interested in Bony. Can you imagine what a wonderful front line they would have if they signed him? There is no reason that Newcastle United shouldn't have a strike force that is at least on par with that level of talent. Bent still has something left in the tank, of that I am sure. He will be super-motivated with the World Cup coming up, and with
Shola's future uncertain, I would be happy to see him here for the right price. Bony is great, but he is the type of player that thrives off of good service. Unless we are playing Hatem Ben Arfa (who doesn't have the best fitness record) and Sylvain Marveaux (why doesn't he get more minutes?) every game then that probably won't happen. I still feel like he would be a great asset to our current squad, and would happily welcome him. Aubameyang is solid. He is exciting to watch, and he can really change a game all by himself. It would be great to have him, but he is highly coveted by a lot of big clubs. My biggest fear is that we'll chase him all summer, get priced out, and then miss out on signing anyone else before the window closes. I may even be persuaded to see Altidore on this list, although I'm not totally convinced that he's ready for a return to the Premier League. I do believe he is going to be very good in the near future (after the World Cup), but he gets in his head a lot. This season is so important with the World Cup looming that I fear it will all be too much for him. He'll probably stay in Holland. OK, so Cisse, Gouffran, Campbell, and 2 of 3 from Bent, Bony, and Aubameyang. Looks like we have the front end sorted. What else do we need? Not much, honestly.
