Newcastle Transfers: 49% Of PSG Fans Want Cabaye Out
Former Toon star finding that the grass definitely isn't greener on the other side of the Channel.
When Yohan Cabaye left Newcastle last January, he should have had the emotional warning of the fans in his ears: "you won't play, and you definitely won't be as loved". Inevitably, he didn't listen and returned home to France on a new adventure that looked doomed from the outset to anyone with half a football brain. Not even a year on and Cabaye has spoken out to suggest that if his lack of PSG playing time impacts his France career - he still remains a pivotal part of the national set-up - then he will reconsider his position. Inevitably, that lead (and continues to lead) to Newcastle fans attempting to get the Frenchman's attention on social media like horny schoolboys trying to catch the eye of the hottest girl in school. That won't work, because he's far, far more likely to go to Arsenal or Man Utd if he's to come back to England, but God does love a trier. The same can be said of Cabaye: if he made his statement as a means to force his way into the first-team, then the agenda failed if a poll of PSG fans is anything to go by. Rather than rally behind the former Lille man - as might have happened at Lille or Newcastle - PSG fans reacted with ambivalence, almost openly stating that they don't believe he should be in the first-team at all. The poll - run by French website Le Sport 10 came out with the following stark results for Cabaye:
49% think Cabaye should be sold IF he is replaced and the team strengthened. 34% said he should be sold whether a replacement comes in or not. 12% said he should be a regular in the first team. That's hardly going to go down well with Cabaye, and will no doubt prove to be yet another catalyst for fans to call on Mike Ashley to rescue the Frenchman from PSG, just as they did with Demba Ba and Andy Carroll unsuccessfully... Should Cabaye be targeted in January? Yes, he's a class act. Would he sign for Newcastle? No. Hero or not, he's not an idiot.
