Newcastle Transfers: 5 Summer Replacements For Yohan Cabaye

2. Clément Grenier (Lyon)

It was believed that Clement Grenier was the man that Newcastle had identified to replace the departing Cabaye. This is due to a bid that they submitted to Lyon towards the end of the January transfer window. Obviously, the deal didn€™t go through at the time €“ but I suspect that they will be trying again this summer. The player has certainly put in some very strong performances for Lyon this season and four goals and four assists so far this season. Further stats include 2.9 shots, 1.9 key passes, 1.2 dribbles per match as well as an average rating of 7.23. He€™s another young player at 23, and appears to have the kind of qualities that the Magpies are looking for. The Lyon player has recently made the breakthrough to the Full France squad and he clearly has a very bright future ahead of him. In terms of position, Grenier is probably best in central areas as a central midfielder or attacking central midfielder €“ so this should be a very good fit for what Newcastle. However, it remains to be seen if the club will be prepared to part with the rather sizeable transfer fee it would take to secure the player.
