As Alan Pardew and Newcastle United look to add further talent to the growing Magpies squad, Twitter was in danger of going into melt-down last night as rumours that the club were about to announce another sneaky striker deal surfaced on the back of a supposedly incriminating image of Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Newcastle's training ground. The image - just the right amount of grainy to propel the theory - apparently featured the tall Gabon international standing alongside Riviere and his agent, and lead to suggestions that the club had somehow managed to pull the wool over the eyes of even the most ardent ITKs and media outlets. Sadly for Newcastle fans dreaming of a new-look strike-force ahead of the season that includes the Dortmund man, who has been linked to a move to either Chelsea or Newcastle all summer, it turns out that it wasn't Aubameyang at all. Obviously. The person in question is in fact a friend of Riviere's with a similar "interesting" hairstyle to one Aubameyang was sporting last year (before his currently favoured more bouffant style came in)... So that's the end of that little dream for another day. Newcastle continue to be linked with attacking options after letting Shola Ameobi leave at the end of his contract and seeing Loic Remy return to parent club QPR. Remy has been linked with a move back to the North East, after his talks with Arsenal apparently broke down over financial details, and other rumours have suggested Newcastle have also looked at Demba Ba (now set for a loan at Besiktas) and former Geordie star Andy Carroll.
