Newcastle United Transfer News: Roberto Rosales Bid Confirmed

Newcastle United have made a transfer bid for FC Twente right-back Roberto Rosales, according to the player's agent. Capped 38 times by Venezuela, Rosales is looking for a move away from Dutch football this summer and has caught the eye of Newcastle's scouts when they were monitoring striker Luuk De Jong, who they have also made two offers for in the past week. Newcastle's first choice right-back target is Lille's Mathieu Debuchy but his impressive performances for France at Euro 2012 have jacked up his price to £7 million, when Newcastle had wanted to spend less than £5 million for the defender. United are hoping to offload their current right-back Danny Simpson for around £2 million and will use those funds towards the acquisition of a replacement. As reported by tribalfootball, Rosales' agent Claudio Ramos was quoted yesterday;
€œWe already know that Newcastle United has made some offers and Reading have showed interest.€
Rosales has previously been valued in the £3-4 million mark, which is much closer to the fee Newcastle are hoping to pay. The defender has one year left to run on his contract at Twente and the Dutch club may be willing to sell to recoup a fee. Roberto has played 84 times for FC Twente and has chipped in with three goals.
