Newcastle United - WhatCulture End-Of-Season Awards

20. Left-Back Of The Season Award

Chris' Winner: Ryan Taylor. An award in honour of Alan Pardew's belief that a club can never have enough left-backs. Surely there has never been such a difference in speed between two players as there was when Taylor lined up opposite Manchester United's flying winger Angel di Maria at St James' Park in March. Di Maria had so much time once he ran past Taylor that he didn't know what to do with the ball - and the Argentine was actually hopeless during the Red Devils' last-gasp 1-0 win. Ross' Winner: Ryan Taylor, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Vurnon Anita, Davide Santon, Massadio Haidara, Jonas Gutierrez, Paul Dummett, Daryl Janmaat, Mike Williamson, Jack Colback, Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul. Anyone can play left-back - that's what Alan Pardew made us believe. You can never have enough - yet, ironically, we didn't have any towards the latter part of the campaign...
