2. Alan Shearer (NUFC 2-1 Everton)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO7qbKlvnOM Where: St James' Park Date: December 2002 It comes as no surprise that Shearer rates this as the best goal of his career. Trailing 1-0 to an obstinate Everton side with just four minutes left on the clock Newcastle required a miracle to salvage something from the game. Cometh the hour, cometh the man to wallop home an unstoppable volley and provide us with a memory to savour in years to come. A hopeful punt forward found the head of a young Shola Ameobi and when his cushioned header dropped into Shearer's path the Geordie striker didn't hesitate when he took aim with a stinging 25-yard volley that dipped violently over Richard Wright and crashed into the net at the Gallowgate End in the blink of an eye. Only our legendary number nine would have the courage to even shape to shoot in those circumstances knowing full well he could blast it high over the bar. For us it was was the purity and precision of Shearer's contact with the ball and the flawless technique that made it such a special goal. "It'll be up there in the top three," he said afterwards. For many Newcastle supporters it ranks as the best they've ever seen at St James' Park.
