Newcastle United's Worst-Ever Premier League XI

3. LEFT-BACK - Celestine Babayaro

Newcastle United: 2005-08

Nationality: Nigerian

Position: Left-Back

Cost: £1 million (Signed from Chelsea)

Premier League Appearances: 47

Premier League Goals: 1

Capped 27 times by Nigeria, Babayaro arrived at St James' Park from Chelsea for £1 million in 2005 and was seen by most as an exciting signing. Unfortunately for the Magpies, Babayaro spent the majority of his time in the North East on the treatment table - and made just 47 Premier League appearances in more than two-and-a-half years before he had his contract terminated.

Former Magpies chairman Freddy Shepherd even labelled Babayaro a "disgrace" who simply "didn't pull his weight" in an interview back in 2009, so hopeless was the Nigerian during his time on Tyneside.
