Newcastle Winger Set For Move Away From St James' Park

Ameobi has signed a new deal - and then gone immediately out on loan.

Sammy Ameobi has signed a new contract at Newcastle United - but he will immediately head out on loan to Cardiff City for the 2015-16 season. The winger€™s contract ran out at the end of the last campaign but the Magpies have offered him a deal, which The Chronicle claim he has now signed. Interestingly, the paper has also firmed up reports that have been circling for weeks that Ameobi will temporarily head out on loan - with Cardiff having held off competition from Wolverhampton Wanderers for Ameobi's signature.
Strangely, Ameobi's sister - Titi - also appeared to let the cat out of the bag on Twitter by leaving this message alongside a photo of her brother:
"My Lil Bro Leavin Home Properly 4 The 1st Time 2 Start New Venture @ Cardiff City! All The Best Lil Bro, God Has Already Gone B4 U & Made Ur Path Straight! Continue 2 Put Him 1st & C Wat He'll Do 4u! This Season Ur Head Will B Lifted Up & God Will Surely Prosper U! Luv & Miss ya...X"
West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion had also been linked to the winger, who is the brother of former Newcastle and Crystal Palace striker Shola Ameobi. The Magpies risked risk losing the former England Under-21 international for a nominal fee if he had not signed a new deal, because any club who had snapped him up would only have been forced to pay compensation due to the fact the winger is under the age of 24. Wolves wanted Ameobi as a potential replacement should they lose their 15-goal striker Bakary Sako while the Baggies wanted to add greater versatility to their forward line. Ameobi has been, much like his brother, a source of serious frustration on Tyneside since he broke into the first-team squad. At 6ft 4in, he is tall and gangly yet he struggles in the air and, although he can come up with the odd neat trick, his final product is far-too-often found wanting. He has played 53 times in the Premier League for the Magpies, including 21 when coming off the bench, and has scored twice. Ameobi also netted once in nine appearances while on loan at Middlesbrough in the Championship in 2013-14.
