Widely regarded as one of the hardest midfielders ever to play the game, there was so much more to Graeme Souness' footballing skills than his ability to put in a crunching challenge. Captain of the dominant Liverpool side of the late-1970s and early-1980s, Souness won 15 trophies with the Reds - including three European Cups and five First Division titles. Calm in possession, Souness would happily distribute the ball to his attacking teammates and then marshal the game from the middle of the field - before breaking up play again when necessary. Also capped 54 times by Scotland, Souness moved from the most-successful club in England at the time to the most-successful side in Scotland, Rangers, in 1986. A further seven trophies followed - and Souness is without doubt one of the best defensive-midfielders ever to play the game.
