10 Hardest Working Newcastle Players Ever

8. Jonas Gutierrez

Played for Newcastle: 2008-15 Position: Midfielder League Appearances: 187 League goals: 11 Jonas Gutierrez can be summarised by the nickname "El Galgo" (The Greyhound) which he calls himself. Despite the occasional dip in form going forward with the ball, no one could ever question the Argentine's work-rate and commitment to the team. Gutierrez would tire you out just watching him on the television and his unselfish wing play was a crucial part of Newcastle United's rise from the Championship to a fifth place finish and a spell in the Europa League. The midfielder played a whopping 187 times for the Magpies and scored 11 goals. He was a fan-favourite and will be fondly remembered for his unorthodox wing-play and tireless attitude. A tumour was detected in his testicle at the end of the 2013-13 season and he underwent surgery in his native Argentina. The player made a full-recovery and in true Gutierrez style he returned to St James' Park midway through the 2014-15 season. The 32-year-old assisted the first goal and scored the second as Newcastle survived relegation to the Championship on the final day. Despite his illness and lack of matches, the Argentine was the hardest working player on the pitch that afternoon.
