Newcastle's Top-10 Summer Striking Targets Ranked By Goals-Per-Game Ratio

2. Dwight Gayle - 0.49 (78 in 158)

2014-15 GOALSCORING RATIO: 0.34 (10 GOALS IN 29 GAMES) Let's be honest, nobody expected Dwight Gayle to be second on this list - but incredibly the Crystal Palace forward has an extremely-impressive career goals return. The 25-year-old has netted 78 times in 158 appearances for Stansted, Dagenham & Redbridge, Bishop's Stortford, Peterborough United and Palace - meaning he has returned an average of 0.49 goals per match throughout his career. True the majority of those have come in the lower divisions (or even in non-league), and so caution must be applied when Gayle's record is first viewed - it needs to be scrutinised further. What's more, during the 2014-15 campaign Gayle's scoring ratio was significantly lower at 0.34 goals per match (10 strikes in 29 appearances), proving there would be an element of risk involved in this one. The Eagles supposedly want north of £10 million for Gayle this summer which, considering his goalscoring ratio in the Premier League, simply does not seem worth it.
