Premier League: 10 Great Players Soon To Be Out Of Contract

3. Franco di Santo

Franco Di Santo Much like Carlton Cole, Franco di Santo is the ex-Chelsea man (where he didn't score a single goal in 16 appearances) playing for a lower-level Premier League side, and struggles to score goals. Quite a big factor for a striker. But nevertheless, the Argentine has a huge fan in Wigan manager Roberto Martinez, and has on occasion shown flashes of brilliance that led to him being linked to Liverpool in January. It's a tricky situation for Wigan. On the one hand, they don't want to lose the man capable of the unexpected and who many believe has a lot more potential to fulfil. But depending on his contract demands, do they really want to offer a bumper deal to a striker who has scored just 13 league goals in 83 appearances? From di Santo's perspective, maybe he feels that playing at a higher level with better players will allow him to prove he can lead the line successfully for a Premiership team. But potential isn't reality, you have to prove you've got the goods to step up, and he has been far too unreliable for Wigan. Martinez wants him to stay and constantly praises his man, so really it is up to di Santo himself - does he seek a new challenge where he might be able to flourish? Or does he stay to repay the faith Roberto and the Wigan staff have shown in him?
