Premier League: 10 January Transfers That Make Sense

10. Man Utd To Sign Luke Shaw

Manchester United manager David Moyes needs to address a litany of problem areas this month, starting with left-back. Ageing Patrice Evra will be 33 in May and is no longer the player he once was, while understudies such as Alexander Büttner and Fabio have been unconvincing. And, with Evra tipped to move back to former club Monaco this summer, Moyes must consolidate left-back now to solve future problems. Leighton Baines of Everton is the obvious option, with the Red Devils chasing the Toffees defender for much of last year, but a more logical choice is Luke Shaw. Baines is 29 and doesn't have too much left at the highest levels while Shaw is 18 and has his entire career laid out in front of him. The Southampton left-back shares many traits with Evra in that he is an attacking fullback endowed with speed, and has even been heralded as the "next Gareth Bale". If there is a heir apparent to Evra playing in the Premier League right now, it is Luke Shaw.
