Premier League: 10 January Transfers That Make Sense

3. Juan Mata To Atletico Madrid

Juan Mata has endured a truly torrid time of things in recent months since the return of Jose Mourinho as Chelsea manager. The marginalised midfielder has found himself in and out of the side this season with Oscar and Eden Hazard preferred by Mourinho, limiting Mata to just a scattering of full appearances this term. And that has led to reports the Spain star could be set to seek a move away this month with Atletico Madrid a possible destination. Mata needs regular playing time if he is to factor into Vicente del Bosque's World Cup plans and by playing the remainder of the season in La Liga, would ensure del Bosque will see him play every week. Chelsea meanwhile have an embarrassment of riches in midfield and could probably benefit from cutting down on their ballooning wage bill.
