There was a record low amount of English players starting for their clubs in a Premier League opening weekend. This comes after many professionals from the game called for top clubs to focus more on their academy prospects instead of buying from abroad in the hope of uncovering the next English star. Looks like we might be waiting a while longer, chin up Roy.

2. Liverpool Are Starting To Look Like A Top 6 Team Again

It€™s been a while, with a few seasons of neither being here nor there, but Liverpool finally look like they could be a strong force again this season. Brendon Rodgers side looked dangerous in attack and solid at the back and earned rave reviews from pundits and football fans alike. If Rodgers is given the time to gel this team and add one or two more quality players then they could be pushing Arsenal and Tottenham for that fourth Champions League slot. Also, a lot still depends on the rather tiresome Luis Suarez saga, yawn.
