Premier League: 12 Candidates For Player Of The Season So Far

11. Demba Ba (Newcastle & Chelsea)

The 2012/13 season up to now, has marked yet another landmark year for the star Sengelese striker. Before he joined Chelsea in the January transfer window, he had accumalated 20 appearances for Newcastle and in those games, fired home an impressive quotient of 13 goals. This goalscoring record would have come as a welcome relief for Ba, who towards the end of last season, was somewhat overshadowed by the brilliance of fellow Sengelese striker Papiss Cisse. This season it appears as though a role reversal has occurred and as Ba has managed to recapture that blistering form he showed early on in his Newcastle career, Cisse has looked lackluster and has lacked that cutting edge he has previously flaunted. As was predicted, Ba's fine Newcastle form warranted him a £8 million transfer to London giants Chelsea in January. Although, perhaps he hasn't settled down to life in London as of yet, as he hasn't quite made the impact he'd have yearned with only 1 Premier League goal in 5 games. However despite this dip in goalscoring form, this season has to be registered as a very successful one for Ba, who's early goals for Newcastle may transpire in being the difference between whether the Magpies play Premier League or Championship football next year.
