5. Leighton Baines (Everton)
Throughout his career, Leighton Baines has always been regarded a top quality left back, but unfortunately for Baines, he has forever been overlooked for the equally gifted Ashley Cole, as England's first choice. Having said this, this season, for the first time in his career, Baines has gone some way in quashing this misguided assumption. Moreover, with Ashley Cole not exactly getting any younger, Baines' bid to be recognized as the best left back in the country has been amplified twofold since the beginning of the year. He has generated several virtuoso performances on the left side for Everton this season and alongside Steven Pienaar, he has participated in one of the greatest partnerships of the season. Baines and Pienaar have been linking up with maximum effect on the left side for the Toffees, bamboozling defenders with silky overlaps and quick one-twos. This season Baines has also unearthed some goalscoring form, with 5 goals in 26 games making him the highest scoring wing back in the league. The relative success of Everton's quest for European football has, along with Marouane Fellaini, been due to the outstanding performance of Leighton Baines as left-back.
