Premier League 2019/20: 8 Big Takeaways From Gameweek Two
5. The Teams At The Bottom
There is only limited information you can get from looking at the table this early in the season. Teams are shaking off pre-season rustiness, may not have had the easiest fixtures to start, and may not have incorporated new signings into the team properly.
However, alarm bells will surely be ringing if after two games your team is at the foot of the table with zero points. While only two teams have taken the maximum points from their first two games, four teams sit at the bottom having taken no points at all.
Aston Villa, Newcastle United, Southampton, and Watford have all lost both of their opening games, and all will be disappointed, as each team would have seen at least one game as winnable. For new boys Villa, it was a home game against Bournemouth. Newcastle played relegation favourites Norwich, Southampton traveled to strugglers from last season, Burnley, and Watford have played both Brighton at home, and Everton.
Unless these teams starting picking up points soon, something will have to change to prevent them falling behind the rest of the league. The biggest concern is possibly for Watford, who have failed to score a single goal so far.
