Premier League: 5 Worst Football January Signings

2. Andy Carroll

Andy Carroll 1 Andy Carroll's £35m transfer to Liverpool from his beloved Newcastle United in 2012 shook St James' Park to the core. Andy only had one outstanding season in the Premier League, along with an equally productive one the previous year in the Championship, but he did enough to convince Liverpool he was the man to replace Fernando Torres. 80 appearances yielded 31 goals in the black and white stripes, but after playing 44 times for Liverpool and only managing a paltry 6 in return, Carroll was deemed surplus to requirements, and is now currently on loan at lowly West Ham United. Injuries have hampered his early West Ham days, though a fit again Carroll will still score goals, even if he does need the correct service from wingers. No wide players, means no crosses and no crosses, means no goals for an Andy Carroll type player. Carroll and his aerial style of play was far too quickly cast aside by Brendan Rogers when arriving at Anfield, as the former Swansea manager wanted to play a flowing passing game. And ironically, some 3 weeks after his move, Liverpool didn't even have a striker at all due to injuries. But regardless of the context of his form, any player bought for £35m and loaned out six months later, has to make this list. Source: Metro
