Premier League: 5 Worst Football January Signings

1. Fernando Torres

Obviously Fernando Torres tops this list with a £50m price tag. Chelsea effectively forced Liverpool's hand and took away their option to hold onto their star striker by throwing in this hefty bid - it was no opening gambit, just a smack of Roman Abramovich's wealth and a huge statement of intent from the Chelsea Chairman. At Liverpool, Torres was an absolute gem, an all-round striker who probably missed more engagements for his sponsors that he missed chances at the Kop end of Anfield. He was also a key figure in the Spain side, who were currently European and World Champions, and although the Spanish national side now prefer not to use an out-and-out striker, I'm not going to go as far as to to say this is down to Torres' influence. 142 appearances and 81 goals for Liverpool and the fastest player to ever hit a half century for the club made him an idol in the red half of Merseyside since signing in the Summer of 2007. He was also the the only Liverpool player to score more than 20 goals in a season since Robbie Fowler. As well as out-scoring any other foreign player in their Premier League debut season. Sadly none of that has been reproduced at Chelsea, and the player looks to have been a major waste of money. Source: Metro Did we miss any of the worst ever January transfers?
