Premier League: 8 Most Over Hyped Players Of This Season

1. Shinji Kagawa

Let's be honest, both of the people in the picture above could have been at the top of this list. Marrouane Fellaini was the only summer signing by David Moyes in his first year in charge of the champions and left much to the imagination. Many expected him to fail though, both with the pressure of being the only signing and with the realisation of who else United were linked with in the summer. This spot, however, goes to the first Japanese player to have ever played for Manchester United, Shinji Kagawa. With a summer of unrivalled infertility in the transfer market, football fans across the country were starting to wonder who would be the creative force in the United midfield. They needed someone to pick out a pass, keep possession and provide the drive that the team so desperately needed. While Moyes was looking at Fabregas and Ander Herrera, fans were screaming at him to give Kagawa a chance and that he would see his was the saviour of this United side. Kagawa has had a fair few chances this year. Playing in 9 Premier League games and 5 Champions League matches. But so far failing to make any contribution of genuine significance. He has one assist in those 14 games combined and although he can look fairly good going forward when linking with the likes of Rooney and Valencia, he does seem to be struggling with the expectation surrounding him. He is the only person on this list who has received more hyperbole from the fans than the media which, in the long run, actually hurts more when you don't live up to it. What do you think? Have I missed anyone or made a massive mistake in any of my choices? Let me know.
