19th: Southampton

For me, Southampton pretty much own the blueprint on how you should run a football club. Step 1 - Invest and persist with your outstanding youth academy, which produces Premier League quality players on a relentless basis. If Walcott and the Ox were still at Southampton now, it'd be a different story. Step 2 - When you do buy players, make sure they'll make a difference. Gaston Ramirez - check. Step 3 - Stick with a manager even when it gets rough. So far, so good. If the Saints sack Nigel Adkins, it's game over, season done, see you in the Championship. I've never understood clubs that sack managers when they've just been promoted; you can't expect the earth too soon. Their best chance is to stick with a manager who has already proven his worth, and who clearly has a long-term vision for the club, a plan that they're already seeing the benefits of already. Southampton being relegated is obviously by no means a certainty. It is however likely, and fans should took comfort in the fact that if they are relegated, they'll probably win the Championship title next season.
