1. Javi Garcia (Benfica to Manchester City)
With the exit of Nigel De Jong to AC Milan, not many would have thought that Manchester City would be in the market for another defensive midfielder, having sealed the signing of Jack Rodwell from Everton earlier on in the transfer window. However, Roberto Mancini had other ideas, and subsequently brought in Javi Garcia from Benfica for a fee
quoted by the Mail to be around £15.8 million. Having started off his career at Real Madrid but failing to make an impact, Garcia left to join Benfica in 2009. He has since gone onto play over 70 times for the club, and brings with him the experience of playing in the Champions League, which surely played a part in Mancini's decision. Garcia has also played in one international for Spain, appearing in their friendly win over Serbia in May of this year. Although he may be a player whose performances go under the radar, he fits the bill for what Mancini and City are looking for, and could play a key role in Mancini's mission to retain the Premier League title.
