Premier League Transfers: 15 Most Successful January Signings

9. Asmir Begovic - Portsmouth To Stoke

Fee: £3.25 million, January 2012. January 2012 saw Stoke sign goalkeeper Asmir Begovic from Portsmouth for £3.25 million and he is now regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League. After signing for the Potters, Begovic quickly went on to dislodge long-term first choice 'keeper Thomas Sorensen and won Stoke€™s player of the year award in 2013, attracting a number of alleged suitors along the way. Begovic has produced a string of consistent performances and just recently missed his first league match for two years after breaking his finger last December. It was also revealed by former Manchester City assistant manager David Platt that they would have signed Begovic if Mancini had not left last summer, which is considerable testament to his quality. If he had moved, Stoke would presumably have received considerably more than the £3.25 million they paid for him.
