Premier League Transfers: What All 20 Teams Need In The Winter Window
Southampton
What do they need? Nothing immediate per se, but it's more a question of Mauricio Pochettino keeping hold of what he already has on the South Coast. Linked with: Davide Astori (Cagliari), Ever Banega (Valencia), Diego (Wolfsburg), McDonald Mariga (Inter Milan). Who we'd like to see at St Mary's: The current squad kept intact. Pochettino's young and talented team, including several England hopefuls like Lallana, will continue to benefit from getting regular football where they are. With a bit of luck in the second half of the season, the Saints might even sneak into Europe.
Stoke
What do they need? Mark Hughes must be thinking of bringing in some defensive cover, a flair player and a new striker to mix things up at the Potters. Linked with: Mame Biram Diouf (Hannover), Luuk de Jong (Borussia Monchengladbach), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Michael Mancienne (Hamburg), Ivica Olic (Wolfsburg), Nick Powell and Wilfried Zaha (both Manchester United) Who we'd like to see at the Britannia: Most of the above names. You can discount the ageing legs of Croatian grafter Olic, but the other six names would all add something to Stoke. Defenders Lescott and Mancienne could be tempted to join Hughes after frustrating campaigns with their current clubs. A move is a definite necessity if Lescott harbours any ambitions of regaining his place in the England squad for the World Cup. Former Chelsea man Mancienne moved to the continent in the hope of pressing his own claims, but they never materialized. Manchester United pair Powell and Zaha meanwhile would get a fair crack at the Premier League in advanced positions in behind the Potters striker. That could be either be ex-Red Devil Diouf or de Jong as Kenwyne Jones has provided little competition for Peter Crouch under Hughes.
