A brace on his Middlesbrough debut against Manchester United seemed to justify the Brazilian's move from Heerenveen.
Alves scored 45 league goals in 39 games for the Dutch side but could only manage 10 in 42 for Boro. That was despite collecting a mammoth £50,000 a week on Teesside. Boro were relegated at the end of the 2008-09 season and Alvez was soon out the door.
