Remy Cabella Hands NUFC Boost By Committing Future

The French midfielder insists he intends to be on Tyneside next season.

Remy Cabella has given Newcastle United a much-needed boost as they battle to stay in the Premier League - by insisting he "hopes" to remain at the club, regardless of which division they find themselves in next season. The Magpies sit just two points and three places above the relegation zone with three matches remaining having succumbed to their eighth-successive Premier League loss at the weekend - but midfielder Cabella has claimed he wants to remain on Tyneside. Newcastle parted with £12 million to lure four-cap French international Cabella to Tyneside last summer, following much haggling with Montpellier president and owner Louis Nicollin. And the 25-year-old Corsican-born playmaker has endured a difficult first season in the North East, scoring just once and contributing only three assists in 29 Premier League appearances as the Magpies have struggled for form and victories.
To be fair on Cabella, he has often been played out of position on the wing and he has been part of a struggling side. However, the attacking-midfielder is adamant his future remains on Tyneside. He told BeIn Sports:
"Yes, I hope so in any case (to remain at St James' Park next season). At the moment, I am 100% there. I have signed a contract. It was difficult for Loulou (the Montpellier president) to sell me because he was asking for a certain price and in France there was not a single club who offered what he asked for. "Newcastle interested me and it was the club that wanted me no matter what the price. It was the only club that offered what Loulou was asking for."
Cabella sat on the bench for the entirety of the Magpies' 3-0 humbling at the hands of Leicester City, but he will hope to play some part during Newcastle's critical run in. The Magpies host West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, before visiting Loftus Road to take on relegation rivals Queens Park Rangers, and Newcastle finish the season by hosting former manager Sam Allardyce and his West Ham United side at St James' Park on May 24th.
