Newcastle could face serious competition for Lyon midfielder Clement Grenier with talkSPORT suggesting that we will have to do battle with Roma for his signature It's no secret that we hold a firm interest in Grenier and is said to be the man Alan Pardew wants to fill the creative void made by Yohan Cabaye when he left for Paris Saint Germain in January, even having an £11 million bid turned down. But the Magpies are undeterred in their pursuit of the 23-year-old playmaker and are poised to reprise their bid to sign him but news of interest from Italy could potentially derail our hopes of luring him to St James' Park, with Roma able to offer Champions League football after finishing as runners-up in Serie A. It's even rumoured that i Giallorossi have already been in touch with Lyon to make the French club aware that Grenier is high on their recruitment agenda this summer and made contact with his camp. The four-cap France international is currently with Les Bleus' World Cup training camp where he apparently spoke to Newcastle stars Moussa Sissoko and Mathieu Debuchy about life on Tyneside. A positive sign, surely? With several European clubs now tracking Grenier and our other leading target, Remy Cabella, theres a feeling that we could be left disappointed by the time the transfer window shuts in September. A £9 million price has been quoted for Grenier and we get the impression the Club would be willing meet that fee straight away given his value could sky rocket should he perform well in Brazil.
