While Victor Wanyama and Schneiderlin make for a formidable central midfield pair that can match almost any top flight club in the centre of the park, Saints are still looking for additional strength in that area (partly to cover for the potential departure of Schneiderlin and partly to give Koeman a greater array of tactical options). Polish defensive midfield star Krychowiak only joined Sevilla from French club Reims this summer, but already has been rumoured to be angling for another move after the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Inter were linked with a £24 million bid for the player. This week Krychowiak excited English fans with an announcement on twitter that he had signed "an agreement with an English club" speculated to be Arsenal (who are also after Schneiderlin), Newcastle or Saints. He would later declare the tweet to be a "prank" with December 28th serving as the Spanish equivalent of April Fools' Day. However, none of the 24 year old's protestations of how well his acclimatisation in Spain is going will remove a sense that his "prank" was actually fishing for a greater link with a move to England. Southampton, which has a large Polish community, has been the home of a number of Polish players in recent years including Grzegorz Rasiak and Artur Boruc, so if acclimatisation does prove difficult in Seville, Krychowiak may find it easier to settle on the South coast of England.
