With former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino now in charge at Tottenham and beginning to make his mark at White Hart Lane, there have been inevitable rumours about him seeking to bring his former players Schneiderlin and Rodriguez with him. On the other hand, Saints could benefit from the possibility of some of Tottenham's players moving in the other direction. England winger Townsend's threatening pace down the wing would make him a good fit for Koeman's Southampton and the club were disappointed to miss out on a potential transfer in the summer. Under Pochettino Townsend has been a fringe player at best, only making five appearances in the first half of the season. As a result, it's probably fair to assume that he may be easier for another club to acquire him, either permanently or on loan, than it was in the summer. There remains a possibility that Townsend may be used as a makeweight in a deal to take Rodriguez to Spurs, but a separate transfer bid is not out of the question. Ultimately, it is likely to come down to a fight between Saints and Townsend's former boss and former club Harry Redknapp and QPR over who wants the winger more.
