With Sadio Mane finally finding his best form in recent weeks, topping it off with an impressive opening goal last week against Chelsea, and Elia's loan deal, Southampton may not be obviously in need of another winger. However, their ongoing interest in Townsend indicates that Koeman and his team clearly feel a greater array of choice on the wings would benefit the team. Norwich City's Nathan Redmond is one of the most highly rated young players in the country, a regular star of England's Under-21 team. With Norwich's relegation last season Redmond is understandably looking to make a return to the Premiership and Saints have a proven track record when it comes to developing young talent into international class players. Saints failed in a £5 million bid for Redmond over the summer, but are reported to now be willing to match Norwich's £8 million valuation for the 20 year old. While they may face competition for Redmond's signature from Newcastle, Stoke and West Brom, Saints can point to their ambition and high league placing to give them an advantage in the chase. Redmond, meanwhile, has the versatile flexibility to play on both wings and his goal against Saints last season showed how devastating he can be. (Although on the other hand, that was his only goal in a season and a half at Norwich, not a great return for a player supposedly worth £8 million).
