Southampton Transfers: 5 More Players Who Could Leave (And 5 Who Could Join)
3. Shane Long
With Rickie Lambert sold to Liverpool, Osvaldo at Inter and Rodriguez heavily linked with a move elsewhere, Saints are looking as lacking in options up front as they are at the back. Graziano Pelle has arrived from Feyernoord having scored an impressive 50 goals in the last 57 games, but that kind of form in the Eredivisie doesn't always translate to the Premier League. Saints need a proven Premier League scorer. Earlier this month there were rumours of an audacious £15 million bid for Man United's wantaway Mexican star Javier Hernandez, but Chicharito appears to have rejected Saints in favour of a possible move to Juventus. Instead Southampton seem to have lowered their ambitions to look to Hull's Shane Long. The Tigers are reported to have accepted Southampton's £12 million bid and the deal could well be done and dusted by the weekend. Whether the Irish international, who managed just 3 goals in 15 games in his one season at the KC Stadium, is the answer to Saints' need for a goalscorer or will justify such a large fee is another matter.
