As we discussed last week, Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have reportedly not given up on their Italian striker target Mattia Destro. Spurs had been linked to the striker for much of the summer, but everything had gone quiet on that front, until it was revealed that the White Hart Lane club had been watching him over the last couple of weeks. Roma want 25 million for their star player, however, and Spurs are reluctant to pay it and have reportedly considered offering Roberto Soldado in part-exchange to sweeten the deal. The Serie A side aren't thought to be convinced by the Spanish striker and have suggested that Spurs give them their former player - Argentina international Erik Lamela - in part-exchange instead. Both Soldado and Lamela had poor first seasons in England last year but are expected to improve in this campaign, having settled in to the Premier League and the English culture, with Lamela in particular said to be a big part of fellow countryman Mauricio Pochettino's plans. But should Spurs be considering giving either of the two to Roma in exchange for yet another player with no Premier League experience? Destro is only 23, is a full Italian international (five caps, one goal) and has a solid strike record for Roma in Italy's top division, but it is a very different game in England and some people might think Spurs would be foolish to part with Lamela or Soldado and more money for a player who is no more guaranteed to adapt to the English game than either of those two were.
