Spurs Transfer News: Tottenham Lining Up Bid For Alex Song?

song Tottenham are lining up an ambitious summer move for former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song - but only if they qualify for the Champions League - according to the Daily Mail. The Cameroonian has struggled to break into the starting XI at Barcelona since his move from the Emirates last summer and is longing for a return to the Premier League. He is unlikely however to return to Arsenal having left the club on bad terms and London rivals Tottenham could be about to pounce. Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas is plotting a clear out of his midfield at the end of the season with the likes of Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker and Jake Livermore all set to be moved on, and he wants Song to compete for a starting berth in his side with the likes of Mousa Dembele and Sandro - once he returns from his season-ending injury. However, a move for Song is only of the provision that Spurs finish in the top four of the Barclay's Premier League this season and clinch Champions League qualification. If they fail to do so, chairman Daniel Levy is unlikely to sanction any such move for the ex-Gunner as signing a new striker takes precedent. Barcelona will be hoping to recoup at least the £15 million they paid for the midfielder last summer.
