Spurs Transfers: 10 Most Wildly Over-Priced Signings Ever

7. Wilson Palacios (£12 Million)

Honduran international midfielder Wilson Palacios joined Spurs from Premier League rivals Wigan Athletic in a £12 million deal in 2009. He had previously played for Olimpio in his home country - a spell that included a brief loan to Birmingham City on the recommendation of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger - and had spent one season at Wigan, during which time he had impressed with his combative approach to games. His time at Spurs saw mixed success. He started off very well - getting an assist in his first match against Bolton Wanderers and being given the Man of the Match award in his second match against the Lilywhites' bitter rivals Arsenal - but he struggled to hold down his place in the team and he was limited to 21 appearances in his second and final season at the club. He joined Stoke City for a fee of around £6 million, giving Spurs a 50% loss on a player they had bought just two years earlier - and, at 27, a player who should have been in his physical prime.
