Spurs Transfers: 5 Quick Defensive Fixes Tim Sherwood Should Consider In January
4. Alexander Buttner
Alexander Buttner is a player that Spurs are already said to have approached Manchester United about in this very transfer window. The 24 year old Dutch left back is yet to really establish himself at Old Trafford but, when he has played, there has been no doubting his quality. He has caps for the Dutch national team up to under 20 level but is yet to make his senior debut, despite being named in Bert van Marwijk's provisional 36 man squad for Euro 2012. An attacking full back, Buttner has scored twice in his five Premier League starts for United (along with two other appearances in the Premier League as a substitute). He probably wouldn't walk straight in to the Spurs team, but he would provide Danny Rose with some decent competition and ensure that Spurs had ample backup in the left back position should the young Englishman get injured again. Buttner's style of play suits Spurs to a tee and a permanent transfer wouldn't be a bad move for the White Hart Lane club, though the intention is only to get him on loan at this moment in time (apparently). In a World Cup year, a move is certainly Buttner's best chance at sneaking in to the national set-up again.
