2. One Player Does Not Make A Team

Gareth Bale is invaluable - his market value incalculable. We're not disputing his importance to the team at all - all you need to do is look at the midfielder's stats for last season to understand his full worth. 21 goals, 57% of his shots on target, 75 goal scoring opportunities created for team mates and four assists. Add the fact he completed 78% of passes and won 73% of his tackles and you start to understand why Real are prepared to pay such an inordinate transfer fee for the star. But then, one player does not make a team. There's a real danger Tottenham are becoming overly-reliant on Bale. An ankle injury against Basel on April 5th coincided with Spurs drawing 2-2 with Everton in the Premier League and crashing out of the Europa League on penalties against the Swiss outfit in the second leg. Bale returned 10 days later against Manchester City and scored the decisive goal in a 3-1 win, and suddenly, Spur's fortunes had been revived again. On the final day of the Premier League season, with Tottenham needing a win against Sunderland to stand any chance of finishing in the top four, Bale popped up with a 90th minute winner - but it still wasn't enough and Spurs can't keep on relying on the Welshman to continue pulling rabbits out of the hat. Tottenham have to realise that the best teams in the league enjoy success because of collective rather than individual talent and by selling Bale they might actually be able to fix one of the problems they're currently enduring...
