Spurs Transfers: Predicting Andre Villas-Boas' 5 August Signings

2. Angel Di Maria

Another Bale replacement could be Angel Di Maria. With strong rumours suggesting Real Madrid are prepared to offer a player-plus-cash deal for the Welsh Wizard, Spurs could have their pick of the speedy Argentine. Di Maria has been floated as a potential makeweight in any deal for Bale, and would in all likelihood lose his place to the 24-year-old at the Bernabeu should he stay this season. And that is why it makes sense for the former Benfica ace to be included as part of any package for Bale, considering the player craves first team football and Spurs would need a new winger. It would be in the best interests of both parties then for this move to go through, particularly as Di Maria has just enjoyed a much-improved season in the Spanish capital, scoring 9 goals and providing 17 assists. And while he's by no means as prolific a goalscorer as Bale, alongside Capel, he would be a step in the right direction in regards to finding a long-term replacement.
