Sunderland 0-2 Hull: Player Ratings

Liam Bridcutt (sub Whickham): The defensive midfielder made his home debut after an impressive derby display last time out. Manfully kept Hull's midfielders at bay and had to fight fires on all fronts. Began to tire late on and was replaced but one of a few Sunderland players who came out of today's match with any credit. 6/10 Ki (sub Gardner): His game is all about passing and possession and with Sunderland down to ten men the on loan midfielder was forced to drop deeper and deeper in search of the ball. Not as effective as in recent weeks and was replaced midway through the second half. 5/10 Jack Colback: Fairly anonymous today in the centre of midfield. Like Ki he has enjoyed a good run in recent weeks but didn't see enough of the ball today, was ineffective throughout. 4/10 Adam Johnson: A difficult game for January's player of the month to influence. Had Sunderland's best chance at the end of the first half, with a roaring volley saved by Harper. The watching England manager would do well to come and scout Johnson again. 6/10 Fabio Borini (N/A) (sub Vergini): Sacrificed early on as a result of Brown's red card. Jozy Altidore: Continues to frustrate the fans. Left on by Poyet to hold play up and instigate counter attacks but was easily beaten to the ball far too easily on a number of occasions. 2/10 Subs:Vergini: Replaced Borini early on to try and shore up the defence in Brown's absence. Looked nervous. 4/10 Gardner: N/A Wickham: N/A Read on for Hull's ratings and our man of the match.
