Sunderland 1-3 Norwich City - Black Cats' Nightmare Start To Season Continues
It'll be ok though. They'll sack Dick Advocaat just before a Tyne-Wear derby and survive, no problem
Sunderland's nightmare start to the 2015-16 Barclays Premier League campaign continued as they succumbed 3-1 to Norwich City at the Stadium of Light. Goals from Russell Martin, Steven Whittaker and Nathan Redmond saw the Canaries secure their first points since returning to the top flight, heaping pressure on Black Cats' boss Dick Advocaat. Even substitute Duncan Watmore's debut goal could not lift the mood on Wearside, with Sunderland slipping to the bottom of the Premier League table with no points from two games, and a goal-difference of -4. The Premier League's oldest manager was downed by the youngest in the division as 34-year-old Alex Neil led Norwich to victory at the Stadium of Light. Despite Sunderland goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon making two wonderful early saves from Robbie Brady and Jonny Howson, he was beaten after palming away a cross to Martin, who prodded home in the 26th minute. Then, just 11 minutes later, Patrick van Aanholt was completely bamboozled by an exchange of passes between Whittaker and Wes Hoolahan, with the former smashing an unstoppable shot into the goal. After Cameron Jerome missed a guilt-edged chance, Redmond then made it 3-0 in the 57th minute when he one-twoed the ball with Hoolohan before slotting in at the near post. Substitute Watmore did manage to net a goal on his league debut, but this was a first appearance to forget. Sunderland are in serious trouble - and questions must be asked of the Black Cats going forward. At the moment, they look like prime relegation fodder.
