Sunderland Transfers: 5 Defenders Dick Advocaat Could Sign Today

2. Jose Enrique (Liverpool)

Another Liverpool loan option, and one sure to cause a stir in the North East were he to return, is ex-Newcastle left back Jose Enrique. Regardless of previous allegiances, the defender was a trusted regular at St. James' Park for three seasons, and played a key role in their immediate return to the Premier League following relegation in 2008/09. Like Flanagan, Enrique's time at Anfield has been hindered by injury woes, but interest in the Spaniard continues to buzz as this summer's transfer window comes to a close. He has already been linked with West Brom, according to Sky Sports News, but the Sunderland Echo believe him to also be a target for the Black Cats. He would certainly be a more trusted left back option than Patrick van Aanholt, who has endured a horrendous start to the season - yet remains in the first team due to a severe lack of left back cover.
